About Brenda Lau
Brenda Lau is a Chinese-Panamanian singer-songwriter, educator, and community arts advocate from Panama City, Panama. She gained national recognition after winning Batallas de Las Estrellas 2010, Panama’s version of American Idol, and later performed the U.S. National Anthem for the Boston Bruins during the 2018–2019 season following the retirement of Rene Rancourt.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, where she earned a degree in Songwriting in 2020, Brenda has written soundtracks for Panamanian films while continuing to develop her work as a performer and songwriter.
As an educator and community engagement coordinator, Brenda designs specialized programs in voice, songwriting, and piano for underserved communities, with a focus on Hispanic and Latino youth. Her teaching philosophy encourages students to discover their artistic voice, build confidence, and develop strong vocal technique through vocal pedagogy.
Through performing, songwriting, and teaching, Brenda is dedicated to using music as a tool for connection, empowerment, and positive social impact.
Trajectory/ Career
After Batallas de las Estrellas, Brenda Lau composed her first single “Chimbombó”. And over the last few years she has shared the stage and recorded with renowned musicians such as: Sheila E., Danilo Perez, Orion Morales, Ivan Barrios, Ednita Nazario and Osvaldo Ayala.
